Short answer: a Facebook page or Instagram account is a great place to find customers, but it is not a shop: there is no cart, no order confirmation and no stock tracking. Open an online store with one link, put it on your page, in your bio, your ads and your message replies, and let customers order by themselves and pay cash on delivery or online. Connect the Facebook pixel so your ads learn who actually bought.
Many sellers in Egypt start on a Facebook page or an Instagram account, with orders arriving in messages: "how much?", "do you have size L?", "do you deliver to my city?". Past ten orders a day this breaks: messages get lost, orders are written down wrong and stock is not tracked. This guide shows how to move the buying into an online store without leaving your page.
Why a page alone is not enough
| Selling in messages | Store linked to your page | |
|---|---|---|
| Taking the order | By hand, message by message | Customers order themselves, 24/7 |
| Prices and sizes | Asked every time | Written on every product page |
| Stock | In your head or on paper | Goes down with every order |
| Ads | Measure messages only | The pixel measures real purchases |
| Customer data | Scattered in chats | A customer list with their orders |
Your page stays as it is: you keep posting and answering comments. The difference is that the purchase happens in the store.
Step 1: open your store
Create a merchant account on Elmatajer and try it free for 14 days, no card needed. The setup assistant prepares your store in minutes: describe your business and AI builds it, or set it up by hand. Details in how to create an online store in Egypt.
Step 2: add the products you post
- Every product post becomes a product in the store: photos, price, description, sizes and colours. See adding a new product and sizes and colours.
- Many products? Import them from a CSV file in one go.
- Answer the questions you keep getting in messages (fabric, size, delivery time) inside the description.
Step 3: set up payment and delivery
Cash on delivery works from day one, which is what most social-media shoppers in Egypt expect. To accept cards and wallets, connect a payment gateway: see payment gateways in Egypt. Deliver with your own courier in your city or a shipping company for other governorates: see shipping companies for online stores.
Step 4: link the store to your Facebook page and Instagram
- Facebook: put the store link in the page's website field, and on the page button ("Shop now" or "Order now") where your page type offers it.
- Instagram: put the link in your bio and as a link sticker in stories.
- In the store: add your social links — social media links — and show Instagram photos in the footer — menu, footer and Instagram photos.
- Product links: when someone asks about a product, send the product's own link, not a photo. See sharing your store link.
Step 5: install the Facebook pixel before you advertise
Without a pixel, Facebook knows who saw an ad or sent a message, not who bought. Once the Facebook pixel is connected (and TikTok or Google if you advertise there), the store sends key events such as add to cart and purchase, and your ads learn to reach buyers. Steps in connecting Facebook, TikTok and Google pixels; see where each order came from in order sources.
Advertising one product? Show it as an ad landing page so the customer can order straight away.
Step 6: let messages finish the sale, not start it
- Turn on the WhatsApp button for customers who have a question before ordering.
- Save a quick reply with your store link so every "how much?" becomes an order.
- Follow up abandoned carts.
Common mistakes
- "Price in DM": customers leave. Show the price in the store and in the post.
- Sending photos instead of a link: a link takes the customer straight to ordering.
- Advertising without a pixel: you pay for messages, not sales.
- Forgetting stock: see stock tracking.
FAQ
Can I build the store on Facebook itself?
Facebook and Instagram show your products and bring customers, but completing the order, tracking stock, payment and delivery need a store. The simplest setup is an online store whose link sits on your page, profile and ads.
Do I need to close my page?
No. The page stays your source of customers and conversation; the store is where the order happens.
Can customers pay cash on delivery?
Yes, cash on delivery works in every store from day one, and you can add cards and wallets through a payment gateway.
How much does the store cost?
A 14-day free trial, then a monthly plan in Egyptian pounds with no commission on your sales. See online store cost in Egypt and pricing.
I only sell on Instagram. Does this work?
Yes. Put the link in your bio and stories; the pixel works with Instagram ads because they run from the same Meta Ads Manager.
