How do I add sizes and colors (variants) to a product?
Variants let you sell one product in different colors and sizes, each combination with its own price and stock. Learn how to set them up and their current limits.

If you sell a product in more than one color or size (say a t-shirt in red and blue, sizes S, M and L), use the Product variants card. Each combination (color + size) gets its own price and stock, and the shopper picks a color and size before adding the product to the cart.
How variants work
- There are only two option types: Colors and Sizes.
- Colors and sizes come from your list under Product Extras (the “Colors” and “Sizes” groups). You can also add new ones right on the product page with Add new color or Add new size — they're saved to your list for reuse on any product.
- Every color paired with every size makes a combination. Each combination has Price, Original and Qty, and under Advanced: Min order, Max order and Low-stock alert.
- When variants are on, the Pricing & cost and Stock & quantity cards are hidden, because price and stock now live on each combination. The price shown on the product card in your store is the first combination's price.
- Each combination's quantity is counted separately. When a shopper picks a combination that has run out, they see “Sold out” and can't add it to the cart, and they can't pick a quantity above what's available.
Adding variants
- Open the product page: New product for a new product, or the Edit icon for an existing one.
- Switch on Product variants.
- Select the colors under Colors and the sizes under Sizes that the product comes in. If one is missing, click Add new color or Add new size, type the name and save it. You can use colors only or sizes only.
- The Combinations table appears with every combination. Enter a price and quantity for each. If they share the same price or quantity, use Quick-apply to all combinations, enter the values and click Apply to all combinations.
- If a combination doesn't exist in your stock (say red in XL), remove it with Delete row.
- Click Publish product (new product) or Save changes (existing product).
Changing variants later
- Adding a new color or size: open the product with Edit, select the new color or size, fill in the price and quantity of the new combinations, and click Save changes. Existing combinations keep their data.
- Changing a price or quantity: change the number in the Combinations table and save.
- Removing a combination: click Delete row and save — the combination is removed from the product. If you deselect a color or size whose combinations already have data, the page asks you to confirm first.
Tip: before removing a combination people still order, consider setting its quantity to zero instead — shoppers then see it's sold out.
In your store
Shoppers must choose a color and size before adding to cart. If they click “Add to cart” without choosing, they see “Please choose a variant before adding to cart”. If the requested quantity isn't available, they see “Requested quantity is not available”.
Not available yet
- A different image per combination.
- A separate SKU per combination.
- Pausing a single combination — set its quantity to zero or delete it instead.
- Option types other than color and size (such as material). For those, you can use add-ons.
If you switch variants off
If you switch Product variants off and save, the product goes back to a single price from the Pricing & cost card. The old combinations are kept but aren't shown to shoppers.
Watch out: if the product has saved combinations, the Product variants switch shows as on every time you open the product for editing, even if you switched it off before. If you want the product to stay single-priced, switch it off again before clicking Save changes each time you edit.
