The dashboard or my store shows the wrong language — how do I change it?
Your dashboard language and your store's language for customers are two separate settings. Learn where to change each one, and what to do if you still see the old language.
In this article
Elmatajer has two completely separate languages: the dashboard language you see while managing your store, and the store language your customers see. Changing one does not change the other.
Change the dashboard language
- On a computer or tablet: click the language button at the top of the dashboard (it shows a country flag and a code such as AR or EN).
- On a phone: open the three-dots menu (⋮) at the top of the page; the languages are at the bottom of it.
- Pick a language; the page reloads in that language with the matching text direction.
The choice stays while you are signed in. If you sign out and back in and find the dashboard back in Arabic, switch it again with the same button.
Note: if your browser translates the page automatically (such as Google Translate), turn translation off and use the language button instead — automatic translation scrambles buttons and forms.
Change your store's language for customers
- Open "Store Settings" from the side menu.
- Go to the "Storefront design" tab.
- In the "Storefront Language" card choose "Arabic only", "English only" or "Multi-language".
- Save the settings.
| Option | What happens |
|---|---|
| "Arabic only" | The store is in Arabic, right-to-left. |
| "English only" | The store is in English, left-to-right. |
| "Multi-language" | Customers pick their language from a button in the store, and the store remembers their choice. |
I chose a language but the store is still in the old one
"Arabic only" and "English only" work for every store without any add-on, and apply as soon as you save. If you still see the old language, check these:
- You didn't save: click Save on the bar that appears at the bottom of the page, then open your store again.
- You chose "Multi-language" without the feature: if it shows a lock and the word "Upgrade", that choice isn't saved and your previous setting stays. Pick "Arabic only" or "English only", or activate the feature with the "Upgrade" button.
- Your store is "Multi-language": the store remembers the last language each visitor chose with the language button, so you may be seeing the language you picked earlier yourself. Switch it with the language button in the store.
Some parts stay in one language after the change
- The store's buttons and menus change with the language, but texts you wrote yourself (such as product names and descriptions) appear exactly as you wrote them, unless the screen has a separate English field (such as category names).
- If you still see the old language after saving, do a hard refresh of the store page (Ctrl + F5).
