How do I create roles and set staff permissions?
A role is a set of permissions you give to one or more staff members. Start from a ready template such as "Sales Manager" or build one from scratch.

A role decides what a staff member can see and do in the dashboard. You create a role once and give it to any number of staff; if you change its permissions, the change applies to all of them.
Fastest way: a ready template
- Open "Team & Permissions" → "Roles".
- Under "Start from a template", choose the template that fits.
- The role is created with its permissions, and you can adjust it later with "Edit".
| Template | Good for |
|---|---|
| "Store Manager" | Full control of orders, products and categories, plus customers, coupons, reports and shipping. |
| "Sales Manager" | Orders, products, stock, customers and coupons. |
| "Support Agent" | Following up orders and changing their status, replying to customers and reviews. |
| "Marketing Manager" | Products, coupons, banners, reports and storefront design. |
| "Finance Officer" | Order finances, refunds, wallet, transactions and reports. |
| "Read-Only Viewer" | View only, no changes. |
A custom role from scratch
- In "Roles", click "Create Role". The "Role Builder" page opens (it also has "Quick templates" if you'd rather start from one).
- Under "Role identity", enter the "Role name" and "Description (optional)".
- Under "Role face", choose a colour and icon so the role is easy to spot.
- In the "Permission matrix", tick the permissions you want. You can use "Grant the whole group" or "Search permissions...".
- Click "Save Role".
Permissions to be careful with
- "Manage Billing": opens the "Payments & Billing" section (subscription and add-ons). Give it only to whoever handles payments.
- "View Wallet": lets them see the wallet and the "Transaction Log".
- "Manage Settings": opens store settings, themes and domains.
- "Manage Team": lets a staff member manage the team. Staff can never give someone a role with more permissions than they have themselves.
- Customer messages: for a staff member to read customer messages, give both "View Customers" and "View Support Chats".
Duplicating and deleting roles
- "Duplicate" makes a copy of the role for you to adjust.
- "Delete role" removes it permanently. If staff are still assigned to it you'll see "Cannot delete" — move them to another role first.
Current limits: the store owner always has every permission. Some screens can currently only be saved by the store owner: store pages (About, Privacy, Terms, Refund), FAQs, the blog, newsletter subscribers and tracking pixels. New-order notifications also go to the owner, not to staff.
