How do I create and manage product categories?
Categories organise your products in the store and in search. Learn how to add a category with an image, edit, deactivate or delete it — and what happens to its products.

Categories split your products up in your store: clothing, accessories, shoes… Every product must be in a category before you publish it, and shoppers browse and search by category.
Adding a category
- In the sidebar, open Categories. The Product categories page opens.
- Click New category.
- Type the Category name. If English is enabled in your store, you'll see a second field for the English name.
- Optionally upload a Category image: JPG, PNG or WEBP up to 4 MB.
- Click Save. The category is created as Active straight away.
Tip: keep the category image simple and clear, and under 4000 pixels on each side. The platform automatically scales it down to 800 pixels.
Editing a category
Click the Edit icon on the category's row, change the name or replace the image, and click Save. You can replace the image with another one, but there's currently no way to remove it entirely.
Deactivating and reactivating a category
Click the category's status in the table: Active becomes Inactive, and vice versa. The click takes effect immediately, without a confirmation.
Before you deactivate a category: deactivating removes the category from every product in it, and reactivating it does not put them back — you'll need to open each product and choose the category again. Products without a category don't appear on category pages or in your store's search results (they still appear on the home page). A banner linking to the category stays, but loses its link.
If you just want to hide a category's products for a while, hide the products themselves from Products instead of deactivating the category.
Deleting a category
Click the Delete icon on the category's row. If the category has products, a “Delete category?” dialog explains that deleting it won't delete the products, but they will be left without a category. Confirm with Delete. Afterwards, give those products a new category so they show up in categories and search again.
Keeping track
- The figures at the top show Total categories, Active, With products and Empty.
- The Products column shows how many products each category holds.
- The Search categories… box takes you to any category quickly.
Current limits
- Each product belongs to one category.
- There are no sub-categories.
- You can't manually reorder how categories appear in your store.
