Online payment gateways in Egypt: how to accept cards and wallets in your store
What a payment gateway is, how Paymob, Kashier and cash on delivery compare, what you need to open an account, and how to connect it to your store.
In this article
Short answer: a payment gateway lets customers pay in your store by card (Visa, Mastercard, Meeza) or mobile wallet, and transfers the money to your account. The two best-known gateways for online stores in Egypt are Paymob and Kashier; on Elmatajer you connect either with your own account. Alongside them, cash on delivery works in every store from day one.
Payment methods available to your customers
| Method | Customer pays with | Money goes to | You need |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cash on delivery | Cash to the courier | You or the carrier until settlement | Nothing — on by default |
| Paymob | Cards and mobile wallets | Your Paymob account | A Paymob merchant account and keys |
| Kashier | Cards, wallets and Apple Pay | Your Kashier account | A Kashier merchant account and keys |
Elmatajer never holds your money and takes no commission. Each gateway sets its own transaction fees — ask them for current rates.
How to connect a gateway
- Open «Payments & billing» → «Payment gateways».
- Click «Settings» on the gateway and paste the keys from its dashboard.
- Start in Sandbox, run a test payment, then switch to Live.
- Copy the webhook and return URLs into your gateway account.
- Turn it on for customers and place a small real order.
Detailed steps: connect Paymob — connect Kashier.
FAQ
Can I accept online payments without a commercial registration?
It depends on the gateway's own terms — some open individual accounts under conditions, others require a commercial registration. Meanwhile you can sell with cash on delivery.
Does Elmatajer take a cut of online payments?
No. You pay your plan only; the gateway charges its own fees.
